Cortez 3

It is important to remember that Cortés was so successful in conquering the Aztecs because of eight main tactics.  They were:

A. Indian allies       E. Religion
B. Horses                F. Knowledge of strengths  and weaknesses of enemy
C. Gunpowder        G. Disease
D. Metal weapons  H.  Trickery

These tactics were used many times by the Spanish in conquering other Indian empires.

It is also important to remember that the Indians used the following techniques in facing the Spanish:

 A.  Many joined the Spanish
 B.  Some fought the Spanish, and were more successful as they acquired Spanish weapons.
 C.  Many others hid themselves or used trickery—sometimes a very successful technique.
