MEMORIAL DAY 2015 MEMORIAL DAY 2015

-Been thinking about my dad and how proud he was to have been a soldier in World War I. 1914 to 1918, the years of the "war to end all wars" in many ways set the stage for what was to happen internationally to this very day. It was a truly horrible time, much of which has now been, unfortunately, forgotten. My dad didn't. Here we are coming up on Memorial Day, a day to remember those who gave their lives for our nation. There are fitting memorials for our servicemen in Washington, D.C., for many of the other wars/conflicts our nation has been in -- except for World War I. Frank Buckles, the last surviving U.S. veteran of WWI tried to get a memorial built before he passed away -- didn't happen. There are a lot of opinions about Pres. Obama, and I have absolutely NO desire to get into political opinions about him, but at least he did approve a WWI monument in Washington, which is expected to be completed in 2018, 100 yrs. after the Armistice of WWI. I thought I would post a picture of my dad that was taken in 1918, when he served. Let us remember and honor all our servicemen!+Been thinking about my dad, Herman Adolph Machula, and how proud he was to have been a soldier in World War I. 1914 to 1918, the years of the "war to end all wars" in many ways set the stage for what was to happen internationally to this very day.
